Our mission

Closing the wealth gap, one student at a time

Through education, empowerment, and action, we're building economic resilience in communities that have been left out for too long.

Our parent organization

Part of Augera

EmpowerEd is the flagship program of Augera. The name comes from the Latin augēre: to increase, to grow, to enrich. It carries one promise, that growth belongs to everyone, and that the right to build, compound, and pass something on should not be reserved for a few families.

Augera holds the mission, the strategy, and the future programs. EmpowerEd is where that mission meets a teenager: financial education built to close the wealth gap, beginning with the young people who have been left out of it longest, ages 13–25, across Greater Boston and beyond.

What Drives Us

To empower youth of color in Boston and beyond with foundational financial literacy skills, fostering economic resilience and closing the racial wealth gap.

Our Vision

A future where every young person, regardless of race or zip code, has the financial knowledge and confidence to achieve economic freedom.

Our Values

Equity, empowerment, education, and community. Financial knowledge is a fundamental right and a pathway to justice.

Our Approach

We combine culturally relevant education with hands-on experience, mentorship, and real-world application to create lasting impact.

Recognition

Award-winning, two years running

EmpowerEd has been recognized at the state level by the NAACP ACT-SO Boston program, the NAACP's Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics, a youth achievement program. In 2025 EmpowerEd earned the Gold Award of Excellence in Business (Entrepreneurship), its first state-level recognition. In 2026 it earned Gold again, marking two consecutive years of sustained excellence in youth entrepreneurship and financial education.

That same year, EmpowerEd took 2nd place in the Power Pitch Youth Pitch Competition, a Shark Tank-style contest for young Boston entrepreneurs sponsored by Citizens Bank that recognizes creativity, confidence, and entrepreneurial spirit.

The Problem We're Solving

The racial wealth gap in America is not just a statistic. It's a systemic barrier that limits opportunities for millions of young people of color. The typical white family holds about 6.3 times the wealth of the typical Black family, and 4.6 times that of the typical Hispanic family (Federal Reserve Survey of Consumer Finances, 2022). This affects access to education, homeownership, business opportunities, and generational wealth transfer. EmpowerEd exists to break this cycle by equipping the next generation with the knowledge and skills to build wealth and create lasting change.
